South Korea Tours - Busan

Since Busan borders the blue sea to the south and touches the lower reaches of the Nakdong-gang (river) to the west, many famous beaches and hot springs have developed along the coast. Thus, plenty of tourists spend their holidays in Busan. Called the second capital of Korea, Busan is a historical city which has been inhabited since the Old Stone Age, 15,000 years ago. It has many scenic spots and cultural assets including Geumjeong Fortress, Beomeosa (temple) and Chungnyeolsa (temple). Busan is always heavily involved in foreign trade as Korea's largest port city and is one of the top five port cities in the world. Since the government decided to place the city of Busan under its direct control in 1963, Busan played an important role in the economic growth of the country from the 1960s to 1970s and was raised to the status of megalopolis in 1995.

Busan Aquarium

There will be approximately 250 species and up to 35,000 marine animals on display. The main tank contains 3 million liters of water and the animals can be viewed through huge acrylic windows or from the 80 meters of underwater tunnel. There are 40 separate exhibits which include penguins, otter, piranha, sea jellies and a touch tank for a close up "hands on" look at a variety of sea creatures. The aquarium will provide a mixture of education and entertainment to delight its guests and leave a long lasting enjoyable memory of the experience.

Eulsukdo Islet

The estuary of the Nakdong River, Eulsukdo Islet is the biggest habitat of migratory birds in Korea. Designated natural monument no. 179 in 1966, Eulsukdo Islet is overgrown with eulalia and reed. As there are abundant plankton, fishery, shellfish, and aquatic insect, it is optimum for habitat of migratory birds. And Eulsukdo Islet is famous for not only habitat of migratory birds also the birds’ scenery of covering a delta and flying to the sky.

Taejongdae-Rock Cliff

Stretching 9.1km along the southern side of the Yeongdo coast, Taejongdae is centered around a 250m-high peak and covers an area of about 1,793,025. There are about 200 kinds of trees -- seashore pine, silver magnolia, camellia and so on. The 4.3km coastal road was constructed over 3 years in the early 70s. The sound of the waves and the dense forest will make for a rewarding visit. The statue of a mother and her children at the Observation Platform sends a welcoming smile to every visitor. You can take in Oryuk Islets and Tsushima some distance away.

Jagalchi Fish Market

The most famous and the largest fish market in Korea. As one of the largest fish markets in Asia, Jagalchi Fish Market has long been the symbol of the Korea's largest port, Busan. Always bustling with fishermen and women, tourists, shoppers, gourmets, wholesalers and retailers of sea products. Visitors can relish freshest seafood at lower prices, and they can choose from as many as 300 kinds of fresh fish as bidders do in the early morning auctions.

Jagalchi Fish Market

Haeundae Beach is the only place in Korea where you can enjoy both sea bathing and hot springs. Already a renowned international resort town, Haeundae sees numerous visitors all year round, especially during summer seasons. Main attraction of Haeundae Beach is, of course, the long white sandy beach and the exceptionally beautiful seascape made by Oryukdo Islands in the distance and the pine forest of Dongbaekseom Island at the southern end of the beach. A number of world-class hotels are dotted around the beach along with nice cafes and restaurants.

Yongdusan Park-Busan Tower

Located in the middle of Busan's busiest area, Yongdusan Park covers an area of over 69,000 square meters. A gem of the park is Busan Tower which soars up 120 meters high standing on a 69-meter high hilltop. As expected, this observation tower gives a stunning bird's-eye view of the entire city of Busan including islands and ships dotted in the distant seas. Other attractions of the park are Palgakjeong Pavilion, the Busan Citizen's Bell, a flower clock, the statue of Admiral Lee Sun-sin, an aquarium, a science museum and an art gallery.

Yongdusan Park-Busan Tower

Yonggungsa (temple), uniquely set in place where the sea water comes into the inside temple. This temple was constructed in 1376 during the Goryeo Dynasty. It is believed that when you pray here, whatever your wishes are, one of them will definitely come true. Thus, lots of people visit Yonggungsa every year.

Beomeosa Temple

Beomeosa Temple was built in the 18th year of King Munmus reign during the Silla Kingdom (678) by a Buddhist Monk, Uisang. Situated halfway up Mt. Geumjeongsan in Busan, it is one of the nation’ s five greatest temples. Scenic natural surroundings harmonizing with groves of Japanese wisteria designated as Natural Monument No. 176 present a marvelous sight. It is a typical attraction for domestic and international tourist.

Gukje Market

Located at the busiest commercial district in Busan, Gukje Market is a huge traditional market consisting of about 1,400 shops, large and small. As they say, there is nothing that you cannot buy here, from trivial things for everyday use to, say, nukes (well, why don't you try). One more thing that is good for shoppers is that you can buy everything at a cheaper prices here than other places. Having said that, don't forget to hassle with shopkeepers before you open your purse.

Busan Metropolitan City Museum

It exhibits our cultural assets from prehistoric ages to modern times and offers special displays once or twice every year. It was also built to treat and preserve artifacts. It retains various valuables, a total about 10,000 products 972 exhibitions and 8,500 preservations for displaying). In the first eight galleries, artifacts from local graves, China, paintings, Buddhist statues, industrial arts, remains from the new stone and bronze ages and documents of the Joseon era were unveiled. Moreover, the Museum will also display the subsidiary data for Busan as an international logistics city.

Haewol Pavilion in Dalmaji Hill

On Dalmaji Hill is a curved road going over Songjeong across the Mt. Wawoo Ridge from Mipo to Cheongsapo. Beside the ocean views there are 15 curves through the woods. In the old times, it was common for many ancient Korean artists to visit here.

On July 30, 1983, the hill monument was dedicated where the sunrise and moonrise are best viewed. In February, 1997. The Haewol Pavilion was erected on the hill, allowing us to enjoy watching the full moon and the sea with an antiquated mood. Also, the nearby Mystery Library, Dongbaek Art Center and famous restaurants provied entertainment.

Nurimaru APEC House

Nurimaru APEC House, constructed for the second APEC summit, is an international convention center providing an amazing view of Haeundae Beach. Nurimaru is a combination of the pure Korean word ‘Nuri’ which means ‘the world’, and ‘maru’ which means ‘summit’. The name symbolizes the coming together of world leaders to hold an APEC meeting at this location.

UN Memorial Park

UN Memorial Park in Busan is founded to commemorate UN soldiers who lost their lives during the Korean War. About 2000 soldiers from 16 countries, including the USA, the UK and Australia, are buried in this 13,500 square meter cemetery. Each tomb has a tombstone on which stories about the dead war heroes are inscribed. The cemetery includes the UN memorial tower built for those who fought in the war although are not buried here, a memorial church and an exhibition hall.

The PIFF Square

When they enter the Nampo-dong Street, many theaters with energetic moods tempt the people. Here wait theaters showing movies four to five times per day. Here has been held the ‘Busan International Film Festival’ annually since 1996, so this newly decorated theater district was renowned ‘PIFF Square’.

Toam Ceramics Park

Ceramic ware of Gijang is famous for works of art. Because they are made up soil, fire and ceramic artist so people is Filled with admiration. Especially Toam Ceramic Ware (Pottery) Park can be possible not only taking a meal but also learning to make ceramic wares. This place can be possible for the bathing in the forest, so you may go early in the morning. Ceramic products are in the whole garden and you can see the scene of studying flower arrangement out of door. Finally, that’s a good chance that you can appreciate Toam(Seo Ta-won)’s works of art.

Yigidae

Yigidae is famous for its beautiful rocky cliffs, but you have to get a boat if you want to see the beautiful scenery because the place where the earth and the sea meet is a little dangerous to pass. It’s also the best place for fishing. According to Choi Han-bok (1895~1968), a folk historian, Japanese troops took over Suyeong Castle and then gave a party here to celebrate their victory. Two Gi-saeng of Suyeong took part in this party and they offered many liquors to the Japanese soldiers. They then leapt into the river dragging with them several Japanese soldiers and died. Hence we call this place ‘Yigidae’.

Gimhae Astronomical Observatory

This structure was built as a two-story building with an observatory and exhibition hall with an area of 5000 . Built on to of Buseongsan, Eobang-dong, the observatory is the first of its kind in Gyeongnam Province. It took three years to complete and is one of only three observatories in the country. It gives children the opportunity to observe space and to look further into their own dreams for the future. The observatory helps develop young scientific minds and gives the children confidence.

Bokcheondong Tomb Museum

Bokcheon-dong Tomb Museum exhibits archeological items excavated from the tombs of Daeposan, north of Boksan-dong. The Bokcheon-dong tombs are believed to have been for the ruling class of the Gaya and Silla kingdoms before the 6th century. Divided into two exhibition halls and an open air exhibition area, this museum currently displays 1500 items from its collections. It has high-tech facilities to help visitors such as a laser disc player, a touch screen system and a video room.

Geumjung Mountain Fortress

It is reported that Mt. Geumjeong Fortress was built in 1703 (the 29th year of King Sukjong’s reign during the Joseon Dynasty) by demand of Dongnae Magistrate Park Tae-hang. However, the structure of castle suggests a Silla style of construction in some places. When it was built, it was a very large fortress possessing gates to the north, east, south, and west. But today, these structures are no longer attached. There are four military secret posts, an explosives warehouse, and a fortress warehouse on record.
